Holiday Makeup: Pink Lips or Smoky Eyes?

Holiday Makeup: Pink Lips or Smoky Eyes?

The holiday season calls for a celebration and with that comes dressing up appropriately. So you’ve found the perfect outfit for the holidays but what about your make-up?

A red lipstick often does the trick but In Style suggests a fresher take on holiday makeup – with pink lipstick!

Pink lipstick has long been the choice of most women, even MAKE UP FOR EVER managing educator Jessie Powers, according to Huffington Post. “Pink is the new red because it is a versatile shade that is fun and flirty without looking too bold or overdone,” said Powers.

Makeup artist Nick Barose, who styled Hailee Steinfeld, shared a useful fuchsia lip how-to-guide to In Style. Below are the steps, according to Barose:

  1. Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipstick in Dominant – “Apply it on the top lip starting at the center, and sweep it outward,” he told In Style. “Then follow by doing the same on the bottom lip, and blot.”
  2. Sweep another layer of the same lippie to intensify the color.
  3. Votre Vu Dramatic Lip Liner in Ripe – Trace your lips to add dimension and to keep the color intact. Barose says you should pick a color which complements your lip.
  4. NARS 413 BKLR Blush – Apply a super light blush on your cheeks. “With a hot pink like this, you should tap a little of the blush off of your brush before you apply, so you only get a kiss of color,” Barose explained.

If you want the attention elsewhere, why not draw it up your eyes? The Fashion Spot recreated Roberto Cavalli‘s Fall 2014 metallic smoky eye look with the help of GLAMSQUAD lead makeup artist Holly Whited.

The Fashion Spot recommends using a primer then the MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Groundwork as base.

Next up is lining the top inner rim and top lash line then smudging it out. The Fashion Spot recommends BareMinerals Lasting Line Long-Wearing Eyeliner in Absolute Black with its pointed tip and smudger.

Now for the fun yet tricky part – mixing two pigment shades together to achieve a metallic look. The Fashion Spot used MAC Pigment in Museum Bronze and Deep Brown but you can also try out other shades from the MAC Nocturnal Collection.

Use a soft gray color to “contour the crease of the eyelids,” says The Fashion Spot. A darker gray should be used “on the outer corners of the eye,” the outlet adds. Boots Botanics Eyeshadow Quad in Midnight Grey could pull off the look!

To complete your holiday eye look, make sure to follow The Fashion Spot’s 5th and 6th steps.
