The Pros and Cons of Liposuction

The Pros and Cons of Liposuction

Is liposuction the answer to your burdening weight problem? You might want to check the advantages and disadvantages first.

What is liposuction?

Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that removes fat and cellulite from your body, usually from specific areas like the legs, buttocks and belly, says Madeline Vann of Everyday Health.

The procedure can be the conventional liposuction type, wherein fat is broken down and removed by a hollow canula under suction. It can also be done through ultrasonic liposuction, wherein a solid ultrasound canula breaks down fat via ultrasound waves. A hollow canula is still used to remove the already broken down fat.

Although lots of people have gone under the knife for the procedure, it doesn’t mean making the decision is easy. It could help to weigh the pros and cons of liposuction, then decide if it’s right for you.

Pros of Liposuction

Effortless – Unlike exercise and diet, you really don’t have to do much should you decide to get a liposuction. During the cosmetic procedure, the most you’ll do is lie down, with local or general anesthetic administered, depending on the extent of your surgery.

Instant – You will see the results right after the surgery.

Targets problem areas – Liposuction is most helpful to people with problem areas which are hard to slim down or tone.

Cons of Liposuction

Expensive – Quoting the American Society of Plastic Surgery, Everyday Health says that on average, a liposuction procedure costs $2,928.

Needs time to heal – Although liposuction delivers instant results, your body will need time to heal.

Excess skin – Most people who undergo liposuction are advised to shed some weight before the procedure, especially if huge amounts of fat and cellulite is expected to be removed. That is because, removing fat too quickly will likely result in saggy, loose skin, which will be another problem of yours.

May lead to infection – Like all medical procedures, liposuction, if not done properly, could lead to infection. It is therefore important to ensure that your cosmetic surgeon is credible and trustworthy.

Weight watch – People who have undergone liposuction are advised to eat right and get exercising, as soon as they are able. And for a good reason – liposuction does remove fat from your body but it doesn’t keep them away.

What do you think? Is liposuction right for you? If not, you might want to start eating healthy and getting into a daily exercise routine for weight loss. Start living healthy now! Check out our 10 favorite detox and weight control products below. Click on the photos to shop!

Juicing for a Healthy Sound Body

Juicing for a Healthy Sound Body

Bottoms up to freshly-pressed juice!

Have you ever wondered why celebrities such as Alicia Silverstone, Blake Lively, Kim Cattrall and more, prefer their veggies cold-pressed? One answer: benefits.

We’ve rounded up the top 3 reasons why you should give juicing a second thought.

Breakfast with coffee orange juice croissant egg vegetables and fruits

Freshly-pressed juice is superfood.

According to Dr. Mercola, drinking fresh juice boosts your immune system, thanks to phytochemicals. In fact, Dr. Oz says that nutrients derived from freshly-pressed juice “help protect against cardiovascular disease, cancer and various inflammatory diseases, like rheumatoid arthritis.”

“Raw juice also contains biophotonic light energy, which can help revitalize your body,” Dr. Mercola adds. And even more good news is that fresh juice can increase your energy levels – making it a perfect inclusion to your breakfast menu.

Vegetable juice, tomato, carrot, cucumber and beetroot

Juicing lets you consume a healthy amount of fruits and vegetables.

There’s no denying that juicing is pretty efficient at packing in all those vitamins and nutrients in one bottle. Living Greens says that a 16-oz. glass of juice equates to 2 lbs of carrots, 10-12 apples, or 8 lbs of spinach. That’s a lot! And we bet there’s no way you can eat a dozen apples in one sitting, unless of course, you juice them.

Juicing promotes weight loss.

Those who are looking to shed a few pounds here and there will be delighted, as juicing has been known to facilitate weight loss. Dr. Mercola notes of one study wherein one group, who consumed freshly-pressed juice as part of their diet, lost 4 pounds in about 12 weeks, compared to another group who did not include raw juice in their diet and shed a pound within the same time frame.

Although juicing has been in the spotlight for years as the way to go healthy, nothing beats proper diet and regular exercise to keep your body in top form. Always remember to consult your healthcare provider should you decide to make juicing a staple part of your diet.

And, if you’re joining the bandwagon, we are highly recommending our bets when it comes to juicing gadgets and produce below. Click on the photo to get the links!

Super Effective Fat Flush Water Recipe

Super Effective Fat Flush Water Recipe

Is fat flush water just a fad or is it the real deal?

According to Kim Lyons, who revealed the neat trick and hyped-up this new kind of water on “The Biggest Loser,” fat flush water is the first step to trim fat for good.

The ingredients are no more than 5, really, as stated on doctoroz.com: water, grapefruit, tangerine, cucumber and peppermint. Below are short explanations as to why the ingredients are essential in helping flush out fat, according to the website.

Water splash on grapefruit with mint isolated on white

Grapefruit – loaded with vitamin C to help your body turn fat into fuel

tangerine or mandarin fruit isolated on white background cutout

Tangerine – increases your sensitivity to insulin, stabilizes blood sugar, and stimulates genes to burn fat

Cucumber water in the transparent pitcher - background

Cucumber – helps you feel full and acts as a natural diuretic, which means less bloating and water retention

ice cube with mint leaves on it

Peppermint – refreshing and promotes better digestion and stomach calm

  • Combine ingredients in a large pitcher.
  • Drink at least one 8 ounce glass three times a day before each meal for 10 days straight.

Take note, fat flush water, although named as such, does not literally flush fat out of your body. It does rid your body of toxins and some people claim it helps them lose weight but coupled with exercise and healthy eating.

Also, people who are taking any type of medication should be wary of grapefruit. MedicineNet.com explains:

“Grapefruit juice blocks special enzymes in the wall of the small intestine that actually destroys many medications and prevents their absorption into the body. Thus, smaller amounts of the drugs get into the body than are ingested. When the action of this enzyme is blocked, more of the drugs get into the body and the blood levels of these medications increase. This can lead to toxic side effects from the medications.”

So does that mean no more fat flush water for those under medication? Definitely not! Try out green tea, cranwater and just plain water. Read more about these non-grapefruit fat flush water recipes on SkinnyMs.com and don’t forget to consult your doctor before going all-out!
